August in Bloom

Every summer we gather around Lanes Cove for a week that feels like the ultimate summer camp. This year even some of my family and our friends from Tampa joined us.

We spend our days barefoot in the sun, with breakfast at Plum Cove Beach, paddles around the cove, endless badminton, trips to Good Harbor Beach, and hikes to our favorite quarry. In the evenings we pile Jane and Richard’s table with a potluck of sorts, a wild feast to suit the vegans and pescetarians and omnivores alike: lobsters caught by their neighbor, piles of watermelon and corn, halibut we brought from Alaska (I’ll post that easy recipe that can serve a huge crowd soon!), lots of vibrant, fresh salads. Someone always comes through with dessert, and the bakeries around Gloucester do not disappoint. After dinner there is always music, sometimes at the table, sometimes on the porch, but our favorite of all is around a fire pit tucked in the rocks by the water, where we jam under the stars until Liz calls it a night.

*** WARNING TO CLAIRE: dead fish pics ahead. Scroll until you see the sunset. Also we missed you and Theo.****Sophia got a pad thai lesson from Sathima. You can find her recipe here.xoxo

Awesome post! Makes me homesick for Gloucester and really hungry for lobsta. <3

    Hello Danielle,

Great pictures of a really nice time. I love when the kids enjoy each other’s Company. Quite nice to see you and your family sharing in the fun. I trust the drive to Bar Harbor was amazing.
Until next year, or perhaps Pine Island! Phyllis

Thanks so much, Phyllis. That night at your place was a blast. We all had a fantastic time and I know my family will be back to Gloucester again. Hope to see you in Pine Island soon.

Your family is so lucky to have their own fabulous photographer to document their life! More killer photographs! The square rigged sailboat photos are my favorites. The one with the boy jumping off the rocks over the “Danger” warning is scary. It really doesn’t look like he going to land far enough away from the rocks! The food photos would totally get you a job with Coastal Living magazine…..truly!
THANKS, too, for the HUGE mangoes and the lobster!!

Thank you so much, Jan! Luckily the boys (including my brother) jumped far enough away from the rocks. It’s no fun to watch. Our aunt’s dog Brady barks and tries to block everyone from jumping. Apparently that quarry is 600 feet deep in the middle. It’s an incredible place to swim. We hiked there with my mom and Mark and they loved it. Enjoy the mangos! See you in October.
