Papaya Coladas

We pass miles of neighborhoods on our way to the Florida Keys, and I think everyone’s got a papaya tree in their backyard. Maybe they just stand out to me because they tower high above the fences and rooftops with big, snowflake-shaped leaves and rows of fruit.

Kaffir Lime and Mango Vinaigrette

We usually find kaffir lime leaves in bowls of Thai soup.  Just like bay leaves, they impart their essence to the broth, but they’re meant to be left behind because the whole leaves are not exactly palatable.  

Pineapple Beer

This isn’t a beer in the traditional sense.  It’s a lightly fizzy, sweet, fermented pineapple drink.  My great-grandfather used to make it.
